The euglena Co Ltd is a biotechnology company that researches, develops, produces, andmarkets microalgae. The company focuses on commercializing its algae research for a variety of uses, including functional foods and cosmetics. Euglena also researches ways to use its microalgae for carbon capture and biofuel production.

Euglena Co., Ltd (“Euglena”) with headquarter in 5-29-11 Shiba, Minato-Ku, Tokyo 108-0014 Japan, acting through its subsidiary, euglena GG Ltd (The “Grameen euglena”), for Bangladesh. With head quarter in level -04, Telecom Bhaban, 53/1, Box Nagar, Zoo Road, Mirpur-1, Dhaka-1216, Bangladesh (the “Cooperating Partner”;WFP and the cooperating partner each referred to as a “Party and collectivelyas the “Parties”).
Collaboration with WFP
There is a Collaboration project for Livelihood and Food Value Chain Assistance for Smallholder Farmers and Food Assistance for Rohingyas between UNWFP and Euglena Co, Ltd. This project is implemented by Grameen Euglena. This collaboration program has been started in 2018. Since then, Grameen Euglena has been providing food security support for refugees and a continued value chain structure. Even in Covid-19, Grameen Euglena actively worked with WFP to solve food crises and smallholder farmers’ income growth. This project was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan.
In this first alliance Grameen euglena solved the following issues.
- Food supply for Rohingya beneficiary (From July 2019 to End Dec 2020 500 Mt Crushed mung dal, and 312 Mt non boiled rice in 2021)
- Increasing income for smallholder farmers (worked with 7000 Farmers in Patuakhali and Sirajganj District)
In addition, with the above Grameen Euglena worked on promotional activities for Rohingha beneficiaries’ food culture development. Grameen Euglena did a huge activity to help the Rohingya beneficiary to enjoy shopping in E-voucher shops and better healthy diet

- We focused on the “Waiting Room” to utilize customers’ waiting time before shopping
- Promote group communication about diet and nutrition.

Project for Livelihood and Food Value Chain Assistance for Smallholder Farmers and Food Assistance for Rohingyas
This contract (the “Contract”) is entered into between:
- The World Food Programme, and
- Euglena Co. Ltd., with an office at 5-29-11 Shiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo 108-0014 Japan (“the Contractor”); (Each a “Party” and, jointly, the “Parties”).

- Project Area: Patuakhali, Pabna and Cox’s Bazar Districts
- Beneficiaries: 6,000 Bangladeshi farmers in Patuakhali, 100 women and youth in Cox’s Bazar

Project Tittle: Livelihood and Food Value Chain Assistance for Smallholder Farmers and Food Assistance for Displaced Persons from Myanmar
Specific Project Objectives
- Capacity strengthening for mung bean farmers in Patuakhali district
- Capacity strengthening for youths and women in Cox’s Bazar district
- Localization of fresh food supply chain in Cox’s Bazar district
- Supply of agricultural products such as mung beans to refugees through WFP-contracted retailers in Cox’s Bazar
At Patuakhali:
Mung bean cultivation, product collection/purchase from farmers.
At Ishwardi:
Factory and warehouse operation, product processing and supply to WFP contracted retailers/local markets/export to Japan.
At Cox’s Bazar:
Establish mung bean processing plant, on-the-job training for youth and women at processing plant, collaboration with WFP contracted Retailers and other Food Security Sector actors.

Capacity strengthening training
Capacity strengthening training - To strengthen farmers' capacity, 6,000 farmers based in Patuakhali districts are selected to participate in this project.
Mungbean cultivation
- Farmers’ meetings and farmer registration.
- Training on cultivation methods.
- Training on post-harvest processing including food hygiene.
Product collection/purchase from farmers
- Establishment of collection structure.
- Establishment of payment system with farmers groups .
Product Marketing
Product marketing to WFP E-voucher outlets (through WFP contracted Retailers) & local markets and export to Japan.
Product preservation
- Quality checking and analysis for export quality.
- Sorting process and preservation of products for Export .
Export to Japan & local Markets
- Supply to e-voucher outlet and local markets and Operation of exportt to Japan
